i ordered this product and rechargeable batteries and charger. I later purchased a Rayovac Battery charger w/ batteries from Walmart ($6.00).works great. Both are junk. The "Reader" failed after the first use, and the batteries never hold an adequate charge. As for the Reader, I simply download from the camera to desktop. Save your money.
I have used the MicroMate to download pictures from SDHC memory cards in my Panasonic digital camera for the last several years. This was an easy, reliable, no hassle file transfer. The pictures were downloaded to a Dell Inspiron laptop (running XP) either through a direct USB port or through a USB hub. The picture transfer was easy to setup and was always flawless.I recently used the MicroMate with a Kingston 8gb microSDHC memory card (and Kingston microSD adapter)to download/upload cellphone pix/flix/sound files from my Dell Inspiron 530 pc (running Vista). I never had a problem to plug the MicroMate into a USB port on the front of the Dell 530 pc. I assume that the MicroMate will work with microSDHC cards and adapters from SanDisk and other suppliers as well.
It read and downloaded the images very quickly.I like the fact that the cap snaps on and off really tight. I just received my SanDisk MicroMate SD/SDHC card reader -- and it's absolutely perfect. And it does have a slot on the edge where you could insert a small clip or key chain.I have not tried downloading files from my computer to the card, because I use the cards only for digital imaging with my Canon A710 IS. My old front-of-the-computer multi-port media reader would only handle SD cards up to 2 GB. So, when I got and used an Extreme III 4GB card, I couldn't download the images onto the computer. This was so simple to use: Take off the cap, insert the reader into the front USB port, insert the 4GB card -- and voila. I use a flash drive for storing other info.I bought this card reader from Blue Proton, where I had also bought the 4GB cards. It came in original packaging (You know, the Adult-Proof kind that takes wire snips to open), and it arrived quickly after ordering.I am extremely pleased with this card reader.
Works well. I am very happy with it. My previous reader wouldn't read SDHC cards, but this one reads all my SD cards.
I originally bought the MicroMate reader so that I could transfer files from our Canon HD Digital Camcorder to iMovie on my Mac. It has been wonderful to be able to take the memory card from cameras of people who visit and easily download any of their pictures to my computer. It works flawlessly for that. What I use it most frequently for now, though, is for transferring photos from the digital cameras of family and friends to iPhoto. It is so much simpler than trying to have someone email me photos - especially because I can see everything on their card and choose which ones I want (instead of making them guess which ones I'd want). Inexpensive, compact, and very, very useful.
